Taking the Pledge Gave Jane a Big Win!

Change the World, Start with ENERGY STAR® is a national movement encouraging all Americans to join with millions of others and take small, individual steps that make a big difference in the fight against global warming. The ENERGY STAR Pledge includes everyday actions, such as changing a light to one that has earned the ENERGY STAR qualified label, enabling your computer to power down when not in use, properly programming your thermostat, and more—actions individuals and organizations can take to save energy, save money and help protect the environment.

By taking the pledge, millions of Americans have stopped the release of billions of pounds of greenhouse gas emissions and saved hundreds of millions of dollars in energy expense.

Our Collective Impact

Thanks to the 3,500 or so Ameren Illinois customers who took the plege, we finished as one of the top five energy efficiency pledge drivers last year. Our pledge results for the 2009-2010 year shows that our customers will:

• Reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 46,423,200 pounds
• Save $3,673,509 on their energy bills
• Cut electricity usage by 25,561,601 kilowatt-hours
• Reduce natural gas usage by 60,907,351,197 British thermal units (Btus)

As part of the Act On Energy 2009-2010 Take the Pledge Giveaway Campaign, Ameren Illinois customers were also entered into our Take the Pledge Giveaway contest if they took the ENERGY STAR pledge. It’s our way of encouraging our customers to use less and spend less on energy.
